COURSE DESCRIPTION: A combination of online and in-person class to earn American Red Cross (ARC) First Aid/CPR/AED certification. Participants must complete the online portion before attending the in-person class. A link will be provided after registration.

TOPICS COVERED:
How to recognize and provide care for a variety of first aid techniques and cardiac emergencies, involving adults and children with injuries at home, work, school, or until emergency personnel arrives on the scene.
- Comprehensive training designed to train lay responders to overcome any reluctance to act in emergency situation, and to recognize and care for life-threatening respiratory or cardiac emergencies.  
- Knowledge and skills necessary in an emergency to help sustain life and to minimize pain and the consequences of injury or sudden illness until professional medical help arrives and takes over.
- Hands-on practice sessions and real-life scenarios in order to learn existing first aid techniques.

CERTIFICATIONS GRANTED: Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED Certification

PREREQUISITE: Participants must first complete the online portion of this course (which may take up to 3 hours) before attending the in-person class. Proof of completion is required.

AGES: Must be 13 and older

WHO SHOULD TAKE THIS COURSE: Anyone who is looking to learn to operate a powerboat safely and improve on-the-water boat handling skills.

COURSE DESCRIPTION: Do you already have your State-Specific Boating Safety Certification and want hands-on instruction, with lots of on-the-water time? Taught by experienced, certified instructors, this one-day course emphasizes hands-on demonstrations, lessons, and on-the-water drills. Suitable for all skill levels, this is a hands-on driving course with minimal classroom time for those with prior theoretical and classroom knowledge.

TOPICS COVERED: Dockside & on-the-water skills: operations checklists; engine troubleshooting; leaving and returning to a dock or slip; slow and high-speed boat handling and close-quarters maneuvering; navigation; towing; person-in-the-water recovery; anchoring; and more!

CERTIFICATIONS GRANTED: US Powerboating Safe Powerboat Handling Certification

PREREQUISITE: None, although State-Specific Boating Safety Certification is recommended

SKILL LEVEL: All levels

AGES: 10 years old and up. Students younger than 13 should attend with a parent or adult.

WHO SHOULD TAKE THIS COURSE: Anyone who is looking to learn to operate a powerboat safely and improve on-the-water boat handling skills and already has their State-Specific Boating Safety Certification (Beginning boaters are encouraged to earn their State-Specific Boating Safety Certification, the New York version of which is offered as part of the two-day Safe Powerboat Handling course.)

SCHEDULE: 1-day, 8-hr course; weekend and custom-scheduled courses.

Learn to race and gain the skills to compete at local, regional, or even national level regattas. Choose from two options:

EXTENDED SPRING SEASON ($650):

Interested in getting out on the water earlier in the season? Excited to spend more time honing your sailing skills? Sign up for a mid-March start! Note: Drysuits are required, as there will be days where the combined water and air temperature will not top 100.

SKILL LEVEL: Recommended for intermediate to advanced sailors with an interest in racing.

REGULAR SPRING SEASON ($450)

WHAT TO EXPECT: High School Sailing is run like an after-school sport. Monday and Friday practices are led by coaches and waterfront staff and consist of briefings, drills, games, and racing on the water. Practice is primarily sailed in dinghies (FJs and 420s). Sailors from multiple schools will be combined based on skill level, have an opportunity to sail with different partners, and may be able to register for regattas as part of a composite team. SUNY Maritime College provides everything needed to participate in practice including sailboats, coaches, safety boats, and life jackets. High School Sailing is co-ed and open to both individuals and teams.

COURSE DESCRIPTION: Are you excited about learning how to operate a boat safely and building your on-the-water boat handling skills? Get out of the classroom and behind the wheel! Taught by experienced, certified instructors, this two-day course is the most comprehensive safe boating course available, combining theoretical classroom knowledge with hands-on demonstrations, lessons and on-the-water drills. Whether you are a beginner or experienced powerboat driver, this course will make you a better boater!

TOPICS COVERED: Classroom topics: boats, motors and terminology; registration and legal requirements; safety equipment and procedures; rules of the road; basic navigation; emergency procedures and rendering assistance; fueling, launching and trailering; weather, and more! Dockside & on-the-water skills: operations checklists; engine troubleshooting; leaving and returning to a dock or slip; slow and high-speed boat handling and close-quarters maneuvering; towing; person-in-the-water recovery; anchoring; and more!

Looking for a unique activity this fall? Get out of the house, off of the computer, and onto the river! Enjoy recreation and instruction aboard a variety of boats - dinghies, catamarans, and keelboats.

AGES: Grades 6 – 8, 9 - 12

SKILL LEVELNo experience required! Recommended for 6th to 8th grade beginner, intermediate, and advanced sailors. Recommended for 9th to 12th grade sailors of all abilities not interested in racing (see the High School Sailing Team options if interested in a more racing-focused program). Sailors will be grouped by age whenever possible.

WHAT TO EXPECT: Participants will learn seamanship and sailing skills, learn to work in teams, meet new friends, and explore the East River.
