COURSE DESCRIPTION: Do you already have your State-Specific Boating Safety Certification and want hands-on instruction with lots of on-the-water time? Taught by experienced and certified instructors, this 1-day course emphasizes hands-on demonstrations, lessons and on-the-water drills. Suitable for all skill levels, this is a hands-on driving course with minimal classroom time for those with prior theoretical and classroom knowledge.

TOPICS COVERED: Dockside & on-the-water skills: Operations checklists; engine troubleshooting; leaving & returning to a dock or slip; slow and high speed boat handling and close-quarters maneuvering; navigation; towing; person-in-the-water recovery; anchoring; and more!

CERTIFICATIONS: US Powerboating Safe Powerboat Handling Certification

PREREQUISITE: None, although State-Specific Boating Safety Certification is recommended

SKILL LEVEL: All levels

AGES: 10 years old and up. Students younger than 13 should attend with a parent or adult.

WHO SHOULD TAKE THIS COURSE: Anyone who already has their State-Specific Boating Safety Certification and is looking to learn to operate a powerboat safely and improve on-the-water boat handling skills. (Beginning boaters are encouraged to earn their State-Specific Boating Certification, the New York version of which is offered as part of the two-day Safe Powerboat Handling course.)

COURSE DESCRIPTION: Are you serious about learning how to operate a boat safely and building your on-the-water boat handling skills? Get out of the classroom and behind the wheel! Taught by experienced and certified instructors, this 2-day course is the most comprehensive safe boating course available, combining theoretical classroom knowledge with hands-on demonstrations, lessons, and on-the-water drills. Whether you are a beginner or experienced powerboat driver, this course will make you a better boater!

CERTIFICATIONS GRANTED: US Powerboating Safe Powerboat Handling Certification. This is a NY State and NASBLA approved course. This course is approved by NY State to meet the NY State Safe Boating Certificate requirements.

SPRING SESSION: April 11 - May 19, 2025
Sessions run Mondays & Fridays, 4:00 - 6:30 PM

Learn to race and gain the skills to compete at local, regional, or even national level regattas.

SKILL LEVEL: Recommended for novice to advanced sailors with an interest in racing.

WHAT TO EXPECT: High School Sailing is run like an after-school sport. Monday and Friday practices are led by coaches and waterfront staff and consist of briefings, drills, games and racing on the water. Practice is primarily sailed in dinghies (FJs and 420s, as available).Sailors from multiple schools will be combined based on skill level, have an opportunity to sail with different partners, and may be able to register for regattas as part of a composite team. SUNY Maritime College provides everything needed to participate in practice including sailboats, coaches, safety boats, and life jackets. High School Sailing is co-ed and open to both individuals and teams.

COURSE DESCRIPTION: This 2-day, hands-on course is designed for anyone who is looking to earn their Launch Tender certification in an on-the-water, hands-on driving and classroom course, in order to pursue work as a launch driver at marinas, yacht clubs, waterfront centers and camps. As part of this course you will earn a certificate in lieu of an exam at the United States Coast Guard so that you may apply for a US Coast Guard License for Limited Operator of Uninspected Passenger Vessels or Master of Self Propelled Vessels engaged in launch tender service upon inland waters (not more than ½ nautical mile from shore). In addition you will earn a US Powerboating Safe Powerboat Handling Certification and New York State equivalent Boating Safety Certification.

TOPICS COVERED: Classroom topics: Registration & legal requirements; safety equipment & procedures; safe boat operation; rules of the road & basic navigation; emergency procedures & rendering assistance; weather & the marine environment; and more! CERTIFICATIONS: This is a New York State, USCG, and NASBLA approved course. Upon successful completion of the course, on-the-water skills, and four multiple choice tests, you will receive US Powerboating Safe Powerboat Handling Certification, which also meets the New York State Safe Boating Certification requirements, and a SUNY Maritime College Launch Tender license, which exempts you from the USCG exam when applying for a Limited Masters or Limited OUPV License. You have 12 months upon completion of the course to submit your complete application to the USCG. You do not need to complete any requirements prior to taking the course.

PREREQUISITE: You do not need to complete any requirements prior to taking the course, but you will need to meet requirements for your USCG license application, including: sea time, TWIC Card, drug test, and a physical exam that includes an eye exam.

SKILL LEVEL: All levels

**If you do not need the USCG Launch Tender License, but are interested in learning how to operate a powerboat safely, we recommend the Safe Powerboat Handling Course.**

AGES: 17 years old and up to take the class, 18 years old to apply for license

SCHEDULE: 2-day, 16-hr course, 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM
